SAFETY AND HANDICAPS

There are two pieces of paperwork that you need to complete before you set sail in the PIC Insurance Brokers Coastal Classic.

SAFETY

The Coastal is defined by Yachting NZ as a Category 3 event. This means you need to get a Cat 3 safety certificate issued by Yachting NZ. These require an insepction, cost $121 for club members and are valid for two years.

HANDICAPS

As the Coastal is a mixed fleet race, we use handicaps to calculate time based results. If you have a keelboat, you’ll need a PHRF handicap certificate from Yachting NZ, which costs $75 for a new application and is valid for a year.  Multihulls can request a handicap from the NZMYC.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All entrants in the PIC Coastal Classic must have a Category 3 minus safety certificate issued by Yachting New Zealand.  The NZMYC has been working in consultation with YNZ to find the right level of safety requirements for this race and  have agreed to run this race under the YNZ Category 3 requirements, minus the requirement for a life raft or dinghy.  All boats (apart from Rally Division entries) must have a PHRF or multihull handicap. You can enter these details on your Top Yacht entry at any time before the race starts.

SAFETY

The Coastal is defined by Yachting NZ as a Category 3 minus event. This means you need to get a Cat 3 (minus life raft or dinghy)  safety certificate issued by Yachting NZ. These require an inspection that is valid for two years. The certificate must remain valid for the duration of the race.

Check out the Cat 3 checklist below and head on over to Yachting New Zealand to book your inspection.  YNZ has also put on special inspection days - check out the dates below

HANDICAPS

As the Coastal is a mixed fleet race, we use handicaps to calculate time based results. All keelboats require a PHRF handicap certificate from Yachting NZ to be elligible to race.  Apply for this by 30 September to avoid a late fee. Multihulls can request a handicap from the NZMYC. We also have a division for entrants with an IRC rating.

RACE TRACKERS

All boats are requested to carry a PredictWind Race Tracker, switched on, for the entire duration of the race so that supporters can watch the race emerge online, and doing so will make you eligible for some terrific spot prizes. The Tracker is a free App that can be downloaded to any iPhone or Android smartphone.
