Cat 3 updates and inspection days

You may have heard that Yachting New Zealand has introduced changes to the process for obtaining your Category 3 (Cat 3) safety inspection, as well as a new annual expiration date for PHRF certificates. Below is an overview of this new procedure along with links for more information.

Category 3 Safety Inspections

The Safety Regulations of Sailing 2021-2024 remain the same for Cat 3, but the procedure has changed.

Previous Process:

1.      Booked your Cat 3 inspection directly with an inspector.

2.      Provided the necessary documentation.

3.      Paid the inspector directly for their services.

New Process:

1.      Log on to YNZ website and choose a safety inspector.

2.      Complete an online form and upload all relevant documentation.

3.      Request an inspection and pay $345 in advance (including GST).

4.      Confirm the date and time with the chosen safety inspector.

Although this might seem a bit demanding at first, this new process ensures that much of the work is completed up front so you'll be well-prepared before the inspection.

Cat 3 Inspection Days

Yachting New Zealand is offering Cat 3 inspection days for PIC Coastal Classic entrants. These days are allocated across various inspectors in different regions. View the schedule HERE and go on line at YNZ to book your preferred inspector.

We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this offer. Early inspections not only reduce pressure on the Yacht Inspectors but also ensure there’s ample time to address any issues and maintain safety standards.

If you can’t make it on these days then speak to your inspector to book another time.
